Bill Murray's entertainment career has been nothing short of illustrious. With a BAFTA Award, two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two Independent Spirit Awards under his belt, as well as a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Murray has proven his versatility and comedic genius over the years. Rising to fame on The National Lampoon Radio Hour and solidifying his status as a national treasure during his time on Saturday Night Live, Murray's career took off with a string of successful comedy films.
While he may be best known for his roles in films like "Ghostbusters," "Caddyshack," and "Groundhog Day," Murray has also dabbled in the world of sports ownership. Before taking over the Joliet Slammers, Murray was involved in the minority ownership of the Minor League Baseball teams, the Charleston RiverDogs and the St. Paul Saints, alongside Mike Veeck. Notably, the Saints were considered the premier independent baseball team in the country before joining the affiliated ranks in 2021.
The Joliet Slammers, a Minor League Baseball team based in Joliet, Illinois, are gearing up for the 2024 season with a new owner at the helm. The team is set to open its season on Friday, May 10, against the Evansville Otters. With gates opening at 5:35pm and the game scheduled to begin at 6:35pm, fans can expect an electrifying start to the season under Murray's ownership.
