Now, in celebration of Route 66s centennial, youre invited to explore Joliet Iron Works impressive stone foundations on a self-guided tour and experience the legacy that helped shape the nation.Along the way, Forest Preserve staff will bring the sites history to life, sharing stories of the people who lived, worked and traveled this iconic corridor. Experience history in action with a live blacksmith demonstration, where raw metal is transformed into everyday tools. Be sure to stop by the preserve shelter to view historic photographs of the iron works and imagine the site in its prime.
