Join us for a special presentation with acclaimed artist, illustrator, cartographer and author TomWillcockson as we celebrate two important milestones: the 110th anniversary of the National ParkService and the 42nd anniversary of the designation of the I&M Canal National Heritage AreaAmericasfirst National Heritage Area. Whether youre a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply curious aboutthe remarkable story of the I&M Canal, you wont want to miss this inspiring afternoon.Tom will discuss The History of the I&M Canal, the new exhibit on display at the I&M Canal Visitor Center.Tom is also the author and illustrator of Passage to Chicago: A Journey on the Illinois & Michigan Canal inthe Year 1860, a historically accurate and richly illustrated account of travel aboard an I&M Canal packetboat. Attendees are encouraged to bring their copy of Passage to Chicago to be signed by Tom. Books areavailable for purchase at the Visitor Center.During this engaging talk, Tom will share: The research that goes into creating historically accurate illustrations His artistic process, from historical sources to finished artwork What inspires his fascination with the I&M Canal and its history Behind-the-scenes stories from creating both the exhibit and Passage to Chicago How art can make history more accessible and engagingThe event is FREE and open to all ages.
