Described as “Rockwellian” by the Chicago Tribune, a walk through Morris’s downtown will reveal the fascinating history, interesting shopping, and diverse dining which draws visitors from all over. Amongst the historic buildings you’ll find antique shops, clothing, gifts, resale shops, book stores and everything from casual to elegant dining. Downtown Morris hosts a full calendar of events including Liberty Days, Home for the Holidays, Cruise Nights and the Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournaments. Canalport Park is located right in downtown and is where you will find a canal freight packet boat replica, and within a short distance the historic Grundy County courthouse and Grundy County Historical Museum. Nearby Stratton State Park is the perfect launch for access to the Illinois River for boating, jet skiing, water skiing, tubing, and fishing. Tranquil Gebhard Woods State Park is frequented by campers, canoeists, hikers, fishers and picnickers, and the site of the annual Dulcimer Festival. The city’s best known festival by far is the Grundy County Corn Festival at the end of September. Contests, concerts, family entertainment, a craft show, farm fair, carnival, and of course corn, are all part of the festivities. Visit www.cornfestival.org for this year’s dates.
