A mid-1800’s architectural wonder helped make Chicago the city it is today.  The 96-mile Illinois & Michigan Canal (I&M Canal) connected the Great Lakes in Bridgeport, Chicago to the Illinois River at LaSalle-Peru, and amazingly unique towns sprung up that maintain their authentic charm to this date.

Open Space is a community art studio and gallery where creativity isn't reserved for the trained, the talented, or the confident. It belongs to the curious, the first-timers, the regulars, and everyone in between. We make space - for making, for meeting people, for trying things you've never tried before and for being a little bit bad at something on your way to loving it.

Drop in during open hours and choose from a wide variety of art projects from our Art Menu. Discover unique handmade gifts in our artisan shop, enjoy monthly rotating gallery exhibitions, and take classes led by local artists. Don't miss our Maker's Market on the third Friday of each month (May–September), when Madison Street comes alive from 5–9 PM with local artists, makers, and one-of-a-kind creations.
